Grandpa - Sept. 13, 1941

12:15 A.M.

Dear Dolores:

You will no doubt wonder why I am writing at this late hour. It is a trifle hard to explain but I am sure it can be done. You see I was just getting ready to write early in the evening when some of my church people came along and wanted me to help them dress some turkeys. It seems that they had several turkeys injured by dogs today and they decided to dress them. Some job! Tomorrow evening I am invited to the same place for dinner so I will probably be eating turkey. You should be here to go along. No foolin', I wish you were, Dolores.
Today has been a rather exciting day for me. Densmores moved their things this morning and I have spent the afternoon getting things in order for myself. I really should say yesterday afternoon since it is now Saturday morning. Friday and Saturday seem to be run together for me. I think you would have been quite surprised if you could have walked in and found me mopping floors and washing dishes. I really did it too. You probably think I am no different than most men when it comes to using a mop and dishrag, but don't kid yourself! I think?? I know pretty well how to do it. Of course I will admit that women have just what it takes to properly perform such tasks, but in my case it is the man's obligation. I really have rather enjoyed getting things arranged in my new home. There is lots to be done yet, but I am gradually getting things the way I want them – in spite of my handicap.
You know what Dolores? After your letter came today I felt just like I wanted to come down to Dayton again. That wasn't the first time I have felt that way. If it were not for the trip east we have planned, I would arrange to come down for a couple days next week. I would like so much to see you that it seems I can hardly wait until Sept. 29th. But next week will be pretty well taken up for me. Tuesday is our District Missionary Convention which I have to attend since I am on the program for song service and devotions in the evening. I am also hoping to get the papering and painting done here in the house next week so I can get completely settled. And of course there is more calling to be done – and just a “heap” of other things. Even a pastor has plenty to do. At least I am finding it so.
Oh, by the way, I neglected to mention that beginning tomorrow I am getting my own meals. Of course I won't fare as well as I did while I was at your house, but I am sure I will get along O.K.
Thanks a lot, Dolores for being so thoughtful in considering the matter I mentioned about the reply I send to Philadelphia. Of course it is the only courteous thing for me to do – to write her. I have no intention of being rude. For all I know she is a splendid girl and I should be pleased to meet her sometime, but I haven't any desire to carry on correspondence with her. You know why I am sure! Thus far I haven't written her, but will be doing it in the near future.
I received the pictures today that I took while I was in Dayton. They really came out very well – except the “close-up” I took of you. I have ordered some reprints that I will be sending in a day or two. Probably you will get them Tuesday.
Glad to hear your picture will soon be on the way. A week and a half seems like a long time to wait, but I suppose there is nothing else I can do. I do want it as soon as possible.

WRITE!!!
Love – Ted Prov. 3:6
