Dear Dolores:
You were indeed very prompt with your last letter and I do appreciate. But you can't beat this! I just received your letter about five minutes ago. Needless to say I was expecting it, or at least hoping for it. I was practically hanging my head out the window waiting for the mail-man. Don't get nervous about my promptness and think something is wrong. You see I have been planning to make a trip to town this morning so I thought I might just as well take a letter along to the post office. Do you mind? I hope not.
Oh, by the way! Do you mind typewritten letters – I mean friendly letters of course? I really don't make it a practice of writing this type of a letter with a typewriter, this machine was on my desk where I last used it so I am taking the way of least resistance. At least it will be legible, providing I don't make too many mistakes. If you prefer handwriting, just say the word and “it shall be so.”
As for the teasing you mentioned, it hasn't affected me in the least. Several attempts have been made to get me to blush bit I just won't do it. Yes news does spread. Some of my church people have already discovered that I recently made a trip to Dayton and they try to “run” on the preacher but it doesn't work. The fact of the matter is no one has ever been successful in teasing me.
Perhaps you have been wondering what I have been doing with my time. In spite of the fact that I am a “bachelor” I haven't had any to spare. Monday and Tuesday I cut corn for one of the church men and I could be doing that today but I have to have a little time to work for myself. I may work out again tomorrow, but not Friday or Saturday. Tonight is prayer meeting and since I am attempting to conduct a Bible study in conjunction with that service, I have to have some time for preparation. This afternoon I am hoping to get some calling done in the community. It is going to be a bit hard to call on people whom I have never met before, but I suppose I might just as well make myself known and get acquainted with the people. You should be here to give me a little support – I mean for my calling. I wish you were, really I do.
In my last letter I failed to mention that the church has agreed to paper and paint he rooms I am using here in the parsonage. They will furnish the paint and I will do the painting. I wouldn't attempt to put the paper on, however. No kidding! I'm going to have a very comfortable place to live when I get things adjusted.
I too am living and waiting for Sept. 29 to come around. Just the other night I wrote to my cousin in Rochester and told her of our plans. I am sure everything will work out O.K. You may send the address where I will find you in Detroit anytime it is convenient. I am afraid I will find it hard to preach Sunday evening Sept. 28th. Perhaps it will be “short and sweet.”
Permit me to conclude with a pen by reminding you that I look forward to getting your letters. Really, Hon, I do enjoy them.
Love
Ted
